Celebrating 10 years

Columbia Basin Hematology and Oncology has served the needs of people with cancer and blood diseases in the Tri-Cities for the past 10 years. As we move toward the future, our goals remain unchanged: To provide evidence-based treatment and powerful research protocols for our patients in an atmosphere of caring and joy. We thank you for your confidence and support.

Most physicians chose the journey of medical school, residency, and fellowship because they love to take care of patients. They oncologists accepted the challenge of looking cancer (the mortal enemy) in the eye and trying to defeat that enemy every minute, every hour, and every day of their professional lives. Medicine is a science and an art, we are faced with the difficulty of reconciling our knowledge, art, and personalities in an ethical, honest and humane, and fair manner.

In 1998, Thomas A Rado, MD, and Ruben D. Sierra, MD combined their practices to form Columbia Basin Hematology & Oncology. They moved their practice into the Tri-Cities Cancer Center. Dr. Sierra has since retired and we have added Dr. Jay Karnet, Dr. Basir Haque and in July of 2010 Dr. Iyad Hamarneh will be joining us.

Working closely with each of our physicians are mid-level providers. We have five very skilled Nurse Practitioners Mitra Rado, MSN, ARNP, AOCNP, Lynne Allen, MSN, ARNP, Marlene SanFilippo, MSN, ARNP and Soumya Donohoe, MSN, ARNP, AOCNP. They work very closely with the physicians in our practice to provide excellent care for our patients.

CBHO New Building

The practice continues to grow with referrals from local physician offices and surrounding communities. As the communities grow and people enjoy longer lives, many will be faced with the chronic disease of cancer. With this in mind, we moved into our new 14,000 sq ft building March of 2009. As we have worked closely with the design team, we have made patient safety and comfort a priority. The new building will have 16 examination rooms, 22 chemotherapy rooms, and will be staffed with a pharmacy support person.
